Bree Tanner I barely knew ye’

A Short Second Life of Bree Tanner is a short novella offering for Twilight fans from Stephenie Meyer. I read it online which felt strange, I did miss the feel of a book in my hands and the glare of the screen started to get to me after a while. (Really should have bought the book when I saw it in the shop - the same day -such a cheapskate.)

I enjoyed experiencing a new point of view, with the Twilight series you never really understand the thirst of a vampire. The Cullens with their vow of vegetarianism and then even as a newborn vampire Bella is such a goody two-shoes that of course she has the ability to withstand her thirst for human blood. Bree on the other hand is not held back and describes her fondness of gluggling down the blood of a human snack or two. Made me feel a bit sick, but thats what you get with a real monster story.

Knowing her tragic end before the book begins doesn’t harm the story, you know more than she does but you are willing to make new discoveries with her and find out how she got there. However, I would have enjoyed if she was just a bit wilder - Bree is nearly as sensible as Bella which I found infuriating. There are limitations set for her as she is born in to a coven of newborn dangerous and stupid vampires. Bree is too smart and keeps her head down so as not to get killed, or even get into a fight.

I recommend this book to (of course) Twilight fans but go in with your expectations set at “ooh I’m getting just a little extra”. Seeing things that way, you will enjoy this read.

I want to start reading a new book and Stephenie Meyer’s - The Host is sitting there looking at me, but I think I need to get away from Mrs.Meyer for a while. Any suggestions?
